We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Matthew Sommers, a board-certified ophthalmologist with specialized fellowship training in glaucoma, to our growing family at Scott & Christie Eyecare Associates!
Dr. Sommers brings extensive background and research experience aimed at improving access to glaucoma care, enhancing handheld tonometer technology and optimizing operating room efficiency. His work spans institutions including the University of Pittsburgh, Southern Denmark University and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
“Having worked within the greater Pittsburgh community for 5 years, I am so excited to know I’m joining such a top notch practice in Scott and Christie. This is a group of committed people who share my own values and dedication to providing excellent patient care throughout our communities,” shared Dr. Sommers. “As a Glaucoma doctor, I know Scott and Christie will offer access to the very best resources and set me up to provide the best possible patient care. I look forward to getting started and continuing to serve this community!”
Throughout his career, Dr. Sommers has supported public health education and volunteered with numerous outreach programs. His service includes acting as a Navigator for the Affordable Care Act and providing free eye care to underserved communities through organizations like the Guerrilla Eye Service and Mission of Mercy. He earned his medical degree from the Robert Larner M.D. College of Medicine at the University of Vermont and completed both his ophthalmology residency and glaucoma fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
His unique combination of clinical expertise, research innovation and deep commitment to community service is what makes Dr. Sommers a great addition to Scott & Christie Eyecare Associates –a practice known for our dedicated team of specialists, cutting-edge vision care and patient-first philosophy.
